General anesthesia, sedation

In cooperation with our anesthesiologist team, we also offer the option of general anesthesia, so that you can have your treatment while ’asleep’, not having to worry about your surrounding, thus reducing anxiety.

Dental treatment under general anesthesia

Many patients choose our clinic because our team specializes in dental treatments under general anesthesia. We are happy to provide you with detailed information about this method.

For many years, we have been working exclusively with the team of Dr. Béla Szabó, who has more than 30 years of experience in this field.

At Evergreen Dental, almost exclusively in Budapest, we specialize in performing dental treatments and oral surgery under general anesthesia, as the conditions in our clinic meet high European standards. The patient can spend the time after the procedure in a private recovery room in peace and quiet, even accompanied by their loved ones.

Important information

General anesthesia is administered by a highly qualified team of specialists using intravenous medication. At the same time, the anesthesiologist administers painkillers and sedatives. To ensure that you feel no pain at all, the dentist applies a local anesthetic to the area being treated.

Once the dentist has finished the treatment, the anesthesiologist stops the anesthesia so that you wake up again after a few minutes. A peaceful awakening after the procedure is ensured by the specially equipped recovery room, where you can be with your loved ones.

The anesthesia team is present throughout the entire procedure and monitors the process up to the moment when the patient is ready to leave the clinic.

If you have any further questions about general anesthesia, please do not hesitate to contact the specialists at Evergreen Dental. We are happy to answer all your questions.

Frequently asked questions

At Evergreen Dental, we can perform implants, tooth extractions, and preparations under general anesthesia. Of course, your dentist will explain everything to you in detail beforehand so that you can decide whether general anesthesia is right for you.

We have been working with the team of Dr. Béla Szabó, for almost a decade. He has more than 30 years of experinece in anesthesiology.

  • Blood and urine samples (general, including kidney and liver function and blood clotting)
  • ECG
  • Medical history from your family doctor confirming that they approve of general anesthesia:
  • What medical conditions do you have?
  • Are you taking any medication?
  • What does your doctor recommend for treating your medical conditions?
  • Your ASA category
  • Chest X-ray (over 50 years of age)
  • Completed medical history data sheet
  • Height and body weight

You must not eat, drink, or smoke for 6 hours before general anesthesia. To make this easier for you, we usually perform general anesthesia treatments in the morning.

Before a general anesthesia treatment, our anesthesiologist always consults with the patient to discuss the most important things again.

After treatment, you will rest in the recovery room, where you can spend as much time as you need in a calm environment. We will monitor you constantly without disturbing you, and your relatives will also have access to the room. We have furnished the recovery room accordingly.

Once we have received all the data, we can decide whether we can perform your treatment under general anesthesia. After receiving and analyzing the data, we may also refuse to administer general anesthesia, for your own safety.

The advantages of general anesthesia

  • Much faster, multiple treatments can be performed in one session (e.g., extractions, bone augmentation, and implantation in the same session).
  • This can shorten the overall treatment time, as there is only one healing period.
  • Very comfortable, as the patient is asleep during treatment.
  • It does not hurt and the patient remembers nothing, so no post-traumatic problems can occur.

Sedation

If the doctor determines that you are not suitable for general anesthesia, there is no need to worry, as dental sedation is still an option.

Intravenous sedation can induce an altered state of consciousness and can be requested for any dental procedure. Our goal is to make this method available to patients with dental phobia. We know how important it is to be able to perform dental procedures under sedation for anxious patients in order to avoid treatment delays that can lead to more serious problems. However, it is important to know that sedation is not the same as deep sleep. Our anesthesiologists and dentists/oral surgeons can usually assess in advance whether sedation is sufficient for you.

The advantages of sedation

Reduction of anxiety and nervousness

Dental sedation can alleviate these emotions by helping patients relax and reducing the discomfort caused by anxiety.

Easier and more comfortable treatment

Dental sedation makes treatment easier for patients, as it is less painful and more comfortable. When relaxed, patients are generally able to cooperate better with the dentist, which enables faster and more efficient treatment.

Less pain and discomfort

Thanks to dental sedation, patients experience less discomfort during the procedure. This can be particularly important for longer, more complex procedures that require patients to sit in the treatment chair for longer periods of time.

The process of sedation

1.

Questionnaire

Before treatment begins, the patient must complete a questionnaire in which they provide information about previous illnesses and medications they are taking, among other things. Our doctors use this information to learn about the patient’s state of health.

2.

Consultation

Our doctor will provide the patient with detailed information about the expected course of treatment and possible complications.

3.

Consent form

To ensure the safety of the patient’s sedation, our doctor will examine the patient and answer any questions. After receiving full information, the patient signs a consent form.

4.

Procedure

During the procedure, under the supervision of a specialist, the patient receives a continuous intravenous dose of an anesthetic “cocktail” that helps to make the procedure painless and works in conjunction with the dental anesthetics. The doctor monitors the patient’s heart function, pulse, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels.

5.

Observation

After the procedure, the patient is observed for 30-60 minutes and, after receiving important information about post-sedation, is discharged home with an accompanying person.
