Fillings are today (against earlier times when amalgam was used for metal fillings) made of composite, a high-quality dental plastic. This material is being applied in a soft condition and it strengthens when receiving light effect and grants a stable, aesthetic high-quality solution while solving the cavity problem. Very important is the quality of the used filling material as this is crucial with regards of duration and look. When placing the composite material in the cavity with a special filling technique we remake the original, anatomical form of the tooth and restore its function.

You might need a filling if your teeth have become chipped only to an extent that can be restored using the filling substance.

Also many patients are looking for safe removal of amalgam fillings in order to replace the metal fillings with white fillings. For this purpose we isolate the area to make sure none of the amalgam gets into the body when being removed.

An inlay needed when the cavity is spread-out in a way that a regular filling is not sufficient and a more extensive filling produced in the dental lab, is needed. Inlays are a very good possibility for saving a tooth with strong cavity. The materials used for inlays are gold, composite or ceramic.

In fact, inlays are a kind of filling, that are made by a technician based on an imprint made previously then fixed in the tooth with an adhesive. Similarly to the steps of making a filling, we remove the decayed parts of the tooth. After that we drill the hole to a shape – naturally making sure to sacrifice as little tooth matter as possible – that is most appropriate for the proper fixing of the inlay.

Next, we make an imprint. Based on that, the technician creates the inlay, using premium quality composite or ceramic materials, whereas ceramic usually lasts longer. Finally, we fix it in the tooth with a special adhesive.

With an inlay we can completely restore the anatomical shape, function and aesthetic appearance of your teeth.

“Inlays” are small supplements that do not require the replacement of tooth cusps, only filling the “inside”.

Contrary with inlays are “onlays” that replace cusps and have a volume. Onlays refer to the outside area of the teeth when the filling includes the replacement of the tooth edge as well.

Also onlays can be made of gold, composite or ceramic however inlays and onlays of gold are not that popular any more as they don’t look natural and also weigh more. Also in addition to the lab costs the price of gold has to be considered, for an inlay 3-6 grams of gold are needed.
