Budapest, the capital of Hungary, has a population of 2 million, which is 20 per cent of the population of the whole country. The capital is the most significant business and cultural hub of the country, and a favourite tourist destination as well.
It has all the facilities a 21st century city needs: from universities to museums, Turkish baths to shopping malls, Budapest offers a big variety of activities.
Visas are not required for travellers arriving in Hungary from the EU, but they are required for those arriving from outside the EU. Arriving by flight
You will arrive at Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest, Hungary. This Airport is well connected to major European cities, mostly with daily routes, but there are flights at least several times a week. We do our best to provide you with the most time- and cost-effective flight options that are suitable for your dental appointments. The airport is located 16 km from the city, which takes more or less 30 minutes to arrive to the city centre. At the airport there are 2 terminals. The Terminal 2A is serving mostly the flights within the Schengen area and Terminal 2B is for the flights outside of Schengen (for instance: flights from Switzerland or England land mostly here). Please do not panic if you do not know where you will arrive or where your flight leaves from, as the 2 terminals are within 5 minutes walking distance from each other.
Arriving by train
There are 3 main international railway stations in Budapest: Eastern (Keleti), Western (Nyugati) and Southern (Déli). More than 50 trains a day provide direct links between Budapest and 25 other European capital cities. Trains to Vienna run every 3 hours, 7 times a day. There is also a popular network of Inter City trains linking Budapest with the main Hungarian towns, in case you would like to visit something else, then Budapest as well. All three international railway stations are part of the Budapest Underground system, the Metró. The Déli and Keleti are stops on the Red (Number 2) line and the Nyugati is on the Blue (Number 3) line. Arriving by car
If you arrive in Hungary on the Motorway, you will have to buy an e-Vignette. We suggest you do that right at the border or latest at the first petrol station. It’s a virtual vignette, replacing the traditional windscreen stickers. You can buy the e-vignette at retailers, petrol stations, on-line on the internet or by mobile phones. The minimum length is 10 days. In summer there can be long queues at the petrol stations, so buying the e-sticker in advance on the web can be a good idea. Actual toll fees you find on the website of the State Motorway Management Company.
We do not recommend using cars within Budapest, as the public transport system can take you anywhere. Parking in Budapest is very tricky and costly. Parking on the street is almost impossible due to high demand and there is barely any area in the city centre for free parking. Parking in a park house will cost up to 20€/day. Airport / Train station Transfer
For our clients we offer the Airport and Train station transfer upon arrival and departure. The only thing you need to do is to arrange in advance with your contact person, providing all the flight/train info plus your phone number. Once you receive the confirmation from the travel agent your transfer is organised, and our team will be waiting for you. Please have a look that the given details and phone number is correct and keep your phone switched on, once you land at Budapest airport, because you will receive the instructions on how to find your driver by SMS. Our chauffeurs speak English and German as well, but if you have any language barrier, please call the emergency number. The transfer takes +/- 30 minutes to the city centre, where our clinic and your accommodation is located. For the return flight you will be picked up 2.5 h before flight departure and for your train 1 h before the train is leaving. Please be ready by that time.
Public transport in Budapest
Budapest has an efficient, diverse and low-cost network of public transport, including bus, metro, trolley bus, tram, suburban railway lines (called HÉV lines), and boat services. By using any kinds of transportation, you can reach your destination fast and convenient in the city.
The Centre for Budapest Transport (Budapesti Közlekedési Központ, BKK) is responsible for the main transport services in Budapest (including bus, tram, metro, suburban, and trolleybus) in an integrated system.
If you would like to travel by public transport, please always keep in mind that you need to have a valid ticket or season ticket with you. Tickets are available all around the city at metro stations, tram stations, or street kiosks. You can use the same type of ticket for all forms of public transport but you need to validate a new ticket for each journey. A singe ticket costs 350HUF.
